Jane Austen wrote six of the most sparkling novels ever penned and adapting them to the movies is hard because fans of Austen are passionate, literate and critical and can recite whole chunks of dialog from the novels the same way fans of Monty Python can do the lumberjack song. And Pride and Prejudice is probably her best loved and most frequently dramatized work.
This is the best adaption I have seen. It is true in spirit and in sense to the original. The visual adaption of the novel is done with lyric beauty, gritty attention to detail and an eye for symbolic clues to the properly restrained feelings of the protagonists. The scene where Elizabeth wanders through the nearly naked statuary of Pemberly is pure genius as if the artwork is showing us her secret attraction for Darcy. So much fun--such chic chick-lit!

This is such a great movie. There is such passion! What a great love story made into a great movie. The actors and actresses were perfect for this movie. There were parts where I wanted Mr. Darcy to just ravish her!!!!!

The work Disney did in restoring this was AMAZING!! The colors were jumping off the screen and you could really appreciate all the artistry done 40 years ago. The person I bought this for and I noticed the difference right away! Even if you have the early DVD release of this movie, getting this copy is well worth it!! If you are a fan of the movie, this DVD set is a must! The characters and songs are even better than they were before! I'm so glad that Disney is taking the time to restore these classics for a whole new generation!
