Audio Books: Why Recorded Books On Tape And Mp3 Books Win Over Books On Cd?


You?ve seen audio books in many formats, haven't you? Recorded books, as they are also called, come on CDs and tapes. The latest technology has created MP3 books. As weird as it may sound, many people like recorded books on tape better than books on CD. Read along to learn why.

Although CDs are great, but when it comes to listening to recorded books, books on tape are the long-term consumer?s favorite.

As a sideline, MP3 books are the new kids on the block. They offer even more flexibility and convenience. Above all formats, MP3 books cut out the fancy packaging, the mail carrier or extra shopping trips. How would an instant download at home suit your busy schedule?

Overall, their superior storage, unnoticeable portability and better price make them superior above other formats so far.

But what?s with recorded books on tape being superior to books on CD?

1. Most audio books on CD are incapable of holding more than 75 minutes of content. On the other hand, books on tape cram 90 plus minutes of voice-over.

Sure, you can have the complete audio book copied out over several CDs. But who wants to haul around a heavyweight case with CDs, right?

So, a few tape cassettes will do you for a particular audio book. In contrast, you will need many more CDs for that same audio book.

2. Would you spend extra money for audio books on CD when you can get the same book on tape (or in MP3 format) for less?

Here?s a quick example to explain:

An unabridged version of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" slims down to nest in 12 audiotapes. It sells for a mere $31.96 on the Barnes & Noble. Ready for the CD numbers now? The same version there, on CDs, costs roughly double the amount - $55.96. And you?ll have 5 more items to handle ?cause there are 17 sets of CDs.

Now, you are thinking ? ?What a rip off!?
Whoa!

It?s far from being fleeced. CDs simply cost much more time and money to produce. Because of the extra outlays, the price tag is higher than the one for the tapes.

3. This one?s clear. When you turn off your CD player while listening to an audio book, often, you won't be able to carry on from the exact spot you left off. With a tape, you can continue from the exact track location you left off.

Imagine how annoying this can be if you are driving and you turn off your car. You?d need to kick-start the audio book CD and patiently locate the spot where you stopped at.

If you have a more advanced CD player that saves your location when you turn off your car, then it?s no problem until ?
You shut off the car and pull out the CD.
Oops.

If you do the same with an audiocassette, the spot where you left off is waiting for you when you push the tape back into the player.

4. You may or may not agree with me here. Audio books, after all, are narrations. Many recorded books enthusiasts are smart. They say ??Why would I spend the extra cash to buy CDs because of recording quality level when I can snatch near enough the same quality on audiotapes for much less??

It boils down to the reality that a human voice recording has little to gain in depth and clarity when recorded on a CD as an alternative of a tape cassette.

Recorded books are here to stay. You, too, may prefer books on tape over books on CD. The tape benefits clearly outweigh the ones of CDs. Have they surprised you at all?

From an outsider's standpoint looking in, they say one should never judge a book by it's cover but I will do as such nonpussed because the dynamics of the combative format is such that of such exclusite artful review that need I say more??

Customer Review: Disappointing

As a hardcore Halo fan, this is just downright disappointing. None of the stories follow Master Cheif, or Captain Keyes, or anyone remotely recognizable from the Halo universe except Sergeant Avery Johnson. The story with Sergeant Johnson is the only one worth viewing. This is an ok gift idea for someone you know who enjoys all things Halo, but if you really wanna get them something of value, go with one of the real novels instead.

Books & DVDs Lamaze This adorable board book features the classic nursery rhyme ""Itsy Bitsy Spider"". Babies will enjoy the rhyme and verse. There are even instructions on how to do the classic hand rhyme.

I have yet to find a Lamaz book that I didn't like. They are bright and fun to read. My son can't get enough of this book.

Customer Review: Our favorite version ! Full of laughs & giggles

Like I said in the title, this book by far is our favorite version of Itsy Bitsy Spider! And what the photo doesn't show is a soft black spider with big puffy eyes and a huge smile! The spider is attached to the book with a long ( but not too long) black cord and attaches to the second page via velcro.



Margaret Spengler did an awesome job illustrating this book and making all of the insects so friendly looking. And true to form it's the original version we all know and love of the Itsy, Bitsy Spider. What is unique is that on each page other than the 1st page is a lift the flap. On the " Washed the spider out page" there is a little bug holding up his hand like one does when they though they felt a drop of rain. But when you lift the flap that same insect is there but is now wearing a mask and snorkle. On the "Out came the Sun" page shows a leaf with a few droplets on it and then when you lift the flap you see a bug wearing tennis shoes and is getting ready to start eatting an ice cream cone sitting in a lawn chair! And on the " dried on up " page all you see on the flap is a leaf floating onto of the water, a small paper boat and a pair of eyes somehow that are above the water. When you lift this flap you then see a smiling snail with the leaf & paper boat. And on the last page you finally get to see the happy spider peering out from the waterspout and has made it to the top! The next 2 pages shows you how to do the fingerplay, so you can sing and do the fingerplay after reading this story.



My daughter has always giggled while being read this and still at 2 1/2 does not tire of this silly story!

Customer Review: High School Musical - 2 thumbs up

My daughter has listened to this CD over and over. Has even started using it with Musical Freestyle with her horse. Well done with catchy songs. Both DVD's were a great addition to family entertainment. Eye catching colors and tastefully done.

Customer Review: Good Do-It-Yourself book for 92 Camry

What I don't understand is why a book like this is not included with your car? Purchased a used 92 Camry, did quite a bit of work to it. This book has already paid for itself 100 times over. Unfortunately, the car is so old that most diagnostics tools are no longer available making this manual even more valuable with it's diagnostic tips and hints.



Good do it yourself book, definitely recommend having at least this book, if not this book and the other guys books as well.

Customer Review: Typical Haynes manual

It's the same manual you'd expect. The photos are black and white and not exactly crisp and clear. I think the step by step format of the text is great. It's worthwhile to pickup a copy, especially if you want to do your own maintenance.

Customer Review: Great for Mac users!

Very easy set up. Fast and easy. The only negative comments seem to come from PC users. Maybe the problems are not the hard drive- they are the operating system. If you have a MAC buy it! It is great!

Customer Review: Smaller than it appears but The size I need it

I was unsure which one to get, but I found this and it is good, I can use it USB or Firewire, the sSata is not really usefull for me now, the plus thing I found on it is that it turns on and off automatically with the computer, so no need to go and click on the power botton.
